To me this sounds like more of a pirate theme than a fox theme. my only issue with the song is the part at 1:24-1:38, it sounds a little empty compared to the rest of the song.

Preds responds:

Thanks for the review! And yeah I added "Fox" to the name because it's a series, like Pirate Fox or Astro Fox :D

I like where this is going. This style is something i enjoy. There are some points i think you should work on though.

-Add a little more reverb to some of the orchestrated sounds, you might be amazed what just a touch of reverb can do for orchestrals.

-Add more bass orchestration. A deep bass sound every 4 bars or so help you feel the rhythm of the plucks and other sounds better.

- mix up the drums a bit. you basically use the same drum beat the whole time. for example at 0:36 you could transition into a new drum beat or add more layers onto your current drum beat.

It's good but still needs work. I do like what you got here and hope you build it up more.

Plysander responds:

These are some good pointers and exactly what Im looking for! Thanks a bunch

Cheers

interesting enough.

This sounds alot like something you would hear a DJ play at a party or a bar. It's got a very clean and well mastered flow that would fit that kind of scene.

I do have a little bit of criticism. It's more of a personal opinion but i feel like the song has too much overall volume, mainly on the lead synth. The bass I feel could shine a little more in the mix if the lead wasn't drowning it out a bit. However, it is very common to do that with this style of house music.

ill give it a 9/10.

also seems like an incomplete song so I am guessing the full song is on itunes?

DJ-Doty responds:

Thank you very much for your feedback! It is actually this length on iTunes due to my general fan base not liking intros, outros and repetitiveness during my tracks. Don't think my music's going to be played at any festival or club anytime soon so I tend to just leave them out. Thanks for the 9/10 rating! Means a lot. Have a great day. :)

pretty nice.

I like the ambient atmosphere, this feels to me like your moving through a densely foggy area with city ruins appearing out of the fog.

I feel like this could use a little more pad orchestration to make it feel more full, currently it feels fairly empty.

The drums that come in about halfway are pretty nice for the atmosphere. you could expand it further and add in subtle cymbals and hi hats. Combine this with a strong pad and you will have a nice sound.

You have managed to achieve both an ambient and unsettling song, which is interesting. Regardless, I still enjoyed it despite it being a WIP.

Teckmo-X responds:

I see what you mean but this is just a sample for my friends Unreal Engine project. Hopefully I can put more work into it and release more new work of my own. I've been off newgrounds a while so let's just see where things go.

Right off the bat the quality of your instruments and drums are fantastic. Mastering is very well done, Loving the cinematic feel.

To me this sounds like menu music to a medieval game. But you could also use it on a battle scene, it sounds like it would fit well in any game within that genre.

From the name it seems like you were going for a feeling of a massive army marching into battle which I can easily picture in my mind listening to this. You could probably dub this over a battle scene from a movie and it would fit well.

I can't really think of any criticisms for this, it sounds very clean and well orchestrated. Ill give you a 10.

Qu4drupleForte responds:

Thanks for the 10, bud! Clean is probably the best I could hope for in these kinda tracks where things get super busy and it's hard to preserve the clarity of layered parts. To me the blaring french horns in this piece always gave me a kinda piratey vibe but the rest does lend itself more to that medieval imagery.

I don't usually listen to this type of music as I prefer songs with no lyrics so this review will mostly be from a production point of view.

The Piano part at the start feels a bit empty, could use some sound effects or synths to fill in the empty space. It does pick up a bit when the drums come in though.

The drums work great but, personally, I feel they are very light on bass...but that is more personal opinion as I like bassy kicks. however, for this song I feel it works best to have it as is as its a very light mix overall.

The mixing is well done all the sound levels are fitting with the overall tone. no sounds really stand out in a negative way.

It's a well produced song, lyrics fit well and everything sounds right.

MegaSphere responds:

About the solo piano intro. I wanted it to sound natural first before the rest of the instruments come in so no wooshy effects and stuff like that. I could have added foley and ambience but I decided against it and took the 'less is more' approach.

I don't get what you mean by the drums being "very light on bass". Are you referring to the snare and hihats not having any bass? (They aren't supposed to). In the drop, the kick has plenty of bass if that's what you mean. There is a sub bass that appears at 1:12, maybe you can't hear it on your speakers/headphones?

I'm also curious what's missing from the track which would've earned it a full 5/5 stars.

Thanks for your review!

This is pretty well composed. Really liking the high pitched bell sound at 0:18, really helps add to the forest sound you are trying to achieve.

There was a small amount of under running at 0:50 with the background sound. not a big deal just noticed it.

The lead synth is really good, you use multiple octaves to add a cool video game/fantasy feel to it, I like that.

If I have to criticize anything it would be your snare choice, while not nessesarily bad it feels a little too heavy hitting for this type of track, something somfter might have been better, maybe add some reverb to it too. The kick drum was barely noticable, but I think for a track like this it works well.

overall well composed and mixed, some minor problems but not a big deal.

Teckmo-X responds:

Thank you!

To me this sounds like something you would have lyrics to, which makes it sound like an instrumental take on a song with lyrics.

your drums and lead synths are pretty good however I feel you are lacking on bass. but I personally prefer my songs to have more bass to them, makes it awesome to listen to on big speakers.

I like the use of the bells however I feel the bell sections felt empty, maybe try adding an extra bassline or drum section on those parts to fill it in.

The beat is pretty catchy and overall the mix is pretty clean, ill give it a 4.5/5

Demonic-Overmind responds:

Holy Crap, I forgot to add a sub bass tbh.
I'm not sure about bells section though, I'll look into it.
Thanks for the review!

Edit: Added Sub-bass

nice use of the clock sound effect, the start sounds like a hip hop track which is interesting for being a dance song.

the side chaining is a nice touch, feels very professionally done.

one part i feel could have been done a little better was the drop after the buildup. I personally prefer some nice bass after a buildup so I might be a little biased towards the way it was done here. you accentuated the lead synth above the bass which is a common trait of modern dance songs. while not necessarily a bad thing I feel like it could use more bass.

the piano part was a nice change of pace and helps work towards the next buildup, the second buildup was better but still feels lacking on bass.

overall I did enjoy it, I can tell you put some hard work into this especially with the vocal work.

9/10 and 5/5

DJ-Doty responds:

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a good review on it! Really appreciate it! :D
Looks like you've figured me out pretty well. Yes, I do prefer lead over bass. My guess is because I'm a home producer that listens to EDM in my spare time rather than feeling the beat in the club, haha. ;)
I am happy with how the clock and sidechaining turned out too! Makes me happy to see someone appreciating the complexity of these things. :)
I hope you have a fantastic day!

i like that first bass, its very different than what you would normally hear in a dance song.

the melody is catchy and nice to listen to, sound levels are not bad. it starts to pick up at 1:04 in a good way, everything flows nicely.

not sure about the name as it doesn't really make me think of dumpster goblins lol. if anything it makes me think of flying through a futuristic city in a flying car.

overall, its pretty well done, not really much i can criticize

Drewpy responds:

Haha yeah idk where the name really came from. I just thought it would be funny. Thanks for the review!
